Abstract
In this one-hour presentation, we will examine the stratigraphy, structural geology, and detailed litho- and ichnofacies of the Austin Chalk Group, with a specific focus on the Atco Formation in the lower Austin Chalk. Outcrops of the Atco occur in the creeks and quarries in the Dallas area with excellent exposures of the basal contact with the underlying Eagle Ford, normal faults that are part of the Balcones fault system, and thick bedded chalks and thin marl interbeds that are heavily bioturbated. The USGS GC-2 core, taken in South Dallas, has a complete section of the Atco. We have made significant strides in understanding the lithostratigraphy and the ichnology of the chalks and marls with the use of XRF data and core image enhancement. Additionally, we will explore the reservoir potential of the Atco Member and its implications for the East Texas Basin.
