Speaker: Professor Becky Johnson, TCU
Title: Disasters, Pollutants & PG Licensure, Oh My!
Abstract: Several environmental disasters will be discussed where geologists were key to finding and fixing the problem. The talk will also focus on the different kinds of pollutants chased in the environmental world and the importance of geologic licensing and why it so important to protect human health and the environment.
Becky has almost 30 years of experience in domestic and international environmental management and an experienced consultant, trainer and auditor. Her expertise is in complex subsurface investigations/remediation, multi-media compliance audits, hydrogeology and groundwater resources. She has an in-depth understanding of regulatory programs including EPA, OSHA, CAA, CWA, EPCRA, and RCRA. She is an experienced international speaker, routinely providing lectures and courses on a wide variety of environmental topics.
Becky is now a professor at Texas Christian University (TCU) in the Department of Environmental Sciences, brining real-world expertise to the classroom, preparing TCU students for the workforce in a manner never-before attempted in a university setting. TCU has pioneered the blending of tradition academia with applied science, creating a dynamic and successful program for their future environmental leaders.
Becky is a licensed Professional Geoscientist (TX) and was appointed to the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) by Governor Perry in 2011. I have served as an officer of the board for several years and was recently elected Chair of the TBPG. Her term expires in 2023.
