Title: 3D Permian Basin Geological Model Abstract: We created a 3D faulted petrophysical geomodel using the Schlumberger Petrel software consisting of over 2.4 billion cells, with 16,000 calculated petrophysical well log curves, more than 50 stratigraphic zones from surface to basement, 2,000 faults, and historical production and injection data. The stratigraphic horizons were generated from 2.2 million tops in 26,000 wells. Thirty-eight 3D seismic volumes and well logs used for the interpretation of this model were shared by operators and vendors and licensed from data providers. The geological interpretations were aided by over 35 years of outcrop, core, and regional sedimentology studies by the Reservoir Characterization Research Laboratory (RCRL) of the Bureau of Economic Geology. The resulting 3D model can be used to address problems such as “What is the capability of the Permian Basin to sequester CO2?” of “What are potential new targets for unconventional production related salt water disposal?”.…
